Meconopsis lyrata

Photographer : Margaret Thorne

Taxonomy

North west Yunnan to Nepal. This is related to M. primulina.

The leaves are very variable throughout the range being both entire or lobed as well as pinnatisect but the pale blue flowers are more constant in colour and size. The leaves on this specimen are not typical of many herbarium specimens which are mostly pinnatisect but the flower and stem is. This plant is described on the 'wild' page but perhaps it is a different taxon. I am very grateful to Alan Elliot, currently digitising herabarium specimens for the RBG Edinburgh, for all the research on this plant.

NOTE These images were under M. sinuata. We have checked herbarium specimens and it does seem likely that these three images were in the wrong place. See note under News.
