4800m. Longshi Bhutan. M Thorne. Shuri Tsho, Tibet. High up (5,000m. +) this species flowers entirely from basal scapes. Lower, stems can stick together-agglutinosed (seen here with 1 stem). Even lower (c.4,000m.) true racemes appear and this is technically a different species - M. racemosa (q.v) However this resembles a scapose M.rudis which has been described in Yunnan! Photographer Martin Walsh.
Shuri Tsho, Tibet. Although this has no leaf bracts adjacent to lower flowers it is technically racemose although even this may be agglutinosed. Photgrapher Martin Walsh. Shuri Tsho, Tibet. More typical scapose specimen. Photographer Martin Walsh.
Langma La, Tibet. Largely scapose. Photographer Martin Walsh. Thong La, Tibet. A more typical plant with a few basal scapes. Martin Walsh.
Clearly shows what is meant by agglutinisation of single basal scapes to form a raceme like stem. Nepal. Paul Egan.
